RYA First Aid

RYA First Aid

This eight hour course provides the essential skills needed to confidently deliver first aid in a boating environment.

First Aid training is a prerequisite for some higher level RYA qualifications and so the RYA first aid course is designed to meet that need specifically for this environment. It is also useful for many other marine or aquatic industries.

Course detail

The course explores a range of first aid situations and is ideal for anyone who may be required to undertake emergency first aid procedures on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. This is a hands-on course that combines a mixture of practical and theoretical learning.

Course content will include:

  • The role of the first aider
  • Incident and casualty management in an outdoor/water-based environment
  • The recovery position in a confined space
  • CPR including the drowning protocol
  • Cold shock and hypothermia
  • Seasickness and dehydration
  • Medical assistance or advice by VHF and helicopter rescue.
