The PBI Skills assessment is a pre requisite for the RYA Powerboat instructor course. Please note this is a one day training and assessment course.
On successful completion of the skills assessment candidate will have their logbook signed by the RYA trainer and will be valid for one year. Our skills assessment days are always held the day before an instructor course.
Course detail
During the day you will revise the skills and techniques taught on the level 2 syllabus followed by an assessment. For the assessment candidates will be required to competently demonstrate all skills from the Powerboat level 2 direct assessment, including:
> Hold off a mark
> Pick up and secure to a buoy
> Moor alongside up/down tide
> Turn using warps
> Turn in a confined space
> Recover a man overboard (dummy)
> Stop & start engine
> Planing speed runs including figure 8 and ‘U’ turns
> Theory including charts, tides, buoyage, colregs and pilotage.
Pre-requisites
Minimum age 16
powerboat Level 2 Certificate
A minimum of 5 seasons experience powerboating or one year full time equivalentÂ
If you are attending the Powerboat Instructor Course following the skills assessment day you will be allocated a talk topic after the assessment to allow you time to prepare your presentation for the Powerboat Instructor Course.
