RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities - Interactive

This course is suitable for those working in the professional maritime world, and is a requirement for RYA/MCA Certificates of Competence, so a commercial skipper understands their responsibilities to Vessel, Crew and Passengers.

Course at a glance

  • Suitable for - Those working in the maritime world. The PPR is a requirement for RYA / MCA Certificates of Competence so a commercial skipper understands their responsibilities to Vessel, Crew and Passengers.
  • Minimum age - None
  • Location - Online
  • Duration - Up to approx. 6 to 8 hours self paced study time followed by up to 2 hours for the two online assessments. *

*Instructional support will be provided for a period of one year from the date of your enrolment on the course. After this time your user account will be removed from the RYA Interactive site.

Please note, you need to select a date from the calendar to make your booking, however, you do not have to complete the training on this date - you may complete this training at your leisure! 

Once you have booked the PPR course we will aim to enrol and send you login details within 24hrs (Monday - Thursday, Friday, weekend and bank holiday bookings will be enrolled during the next working day). 

Course Detail

The course is split in to 4 sections

Commercial enviroment Showing how you fit into the professional maritime world

People Explaining the importance of correct manning, keeping skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels

Vessel Teaching about the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment, and how to create an implement risk control and operating procedures

Purpose Making sure the vessel is suitable and legal for the work, obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness

At the end of these four training modules will come two online assessments. You should allow yourself around six to eight hours to complete this online course. This can be in more than one session, however each assessment is timed and must be taken in a single unit. You should also allow up to two further hours to take the two online assessments.
