RYA Powerboat Instructor Skills Assessment

The PBI Skills assessment is a pre requisite for the RYA Powerboat instructor course. Please note this is a one day training and assessment course.

Course at a glance

Pre-Requisites

  • Powerboat Level 2 Certificate
  • Either a minimum of 5 seasons expereince powerboating or one year full time equivalent

Course detail

During the day you will revise the skills and techniques taught on the level 2 syllabus followed by an assessment. During the assessment candidates candidates will be required to competently demonstrate all skills from the powerboat level 2 direct assessment, including:

  • Hold off a mark
  • Pick up and secure to a buoy
  • Moor alongside up/down tide
  • Turn using warps
  • Turn in confined space
  • Recover a man overboard (dummy)
  • Stop & start engine
  • Planing speed runs including figure of 8 and U turns
  • Theory including charts, tides, buoyage, colregs and pilotage.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of the skills assessment the trainer will complete the skills assessment section on your Powerboat Instructor Report Card and G19 Powerboat instructor handbook. Your Skills Assessment is valid for one year.
