RYA Powerboat Level 2 Direct Assessment
The Direct assessment is a standalone 0.5 day course for those who already have the skills and knowledge to gain their Level 2 Qualification.
The direct assessment gives participants the opportunity to demonstrate the manoeuvres and knowledge to the standard of the RYA level 2 powerboat. Those who successfully complete the Powerboat level 2 direct assessment will be able to apply for a coastal ICC for Power up to 10m.
Course detail
The Level 2 Powerboat direct assessment is ideal for those who have previous powerboating handling experience and want to gain their RYA Powerboat level 2 certificate.
Assessment content will include:
Launching and recovery
Boat handling at low and planing speed
Securing to a buoy
Man overboard recovery
Anchoring
Leaving and coming alongside (marina handling)
Basic navigation and passage planning
IRPCS (rules of the road)
Weather and tides
Minimum age 12
Candidates must have one full season (or part time equivalent) powerboat handling experience

On completion, candidates will receive an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate. Candidates aged 12 to 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate. All certificates are registered online with the RYA and require a passport-sized photo to be provided.
