This two day Outdoor First Aid course at our Mersea site provides the practical skills needed to become a confident first aider in an outdoor environment. The course is ideal for anyone who spends a lot of time in an outdoor setting, including Teachers, DofE leaders, Outdoor Instructors and expedition or RYA award holders.
Nationally recognised and OFQUAL regulated, this course is suitable for anyone involved in delivering or taking part in outdoor activities. It's ideal for those who require the basic life- saving skills and knowledge to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations in outdoor environments where an ambulance might not be readily available.
This is a hands-on course that combines a mixture of practical and theoretical learning. The course content will cover a range of first aid and emergency situations, including - but not limited to - bleeding, minor injuries, fractures and stroke.
Course detail
Suitable for individuals and groups, this activity first aid course is Qualsafe accredited and takes a theoretical and practical approach to learning first aid in a variety of scenarios.
The course is made up of four practical assessments and two multiple choice written papers that will be carried out informally over two days. A course book and handouts will be provided to each candidate.
Course content will include:
· The role of the first aider, incident and casualty assessment
· Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
· Care of the unconscious casualty, choking, external bleeding and shock
· Minor injuries such as burns and scalds, splinters, bruises, grazes
· Fractures, sprains and strains, dislocations
· Head neck and back injuries, chest and abdominal injuries
· Thermal injuries, extreme heat and cold, eye injuries, poisoning and anaphylactic shock
· Heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, diabetes and asthma
On completion of the course, candidates will receive the Qualsafe accredited first aid certificate.
