Paediatric First Aid

This two day paediatric first aid course provides the practical skills needed to become a confident first aider for children under the age of eight.

The course is Ofsted approved and is ideal for anyone who has a responsibility to look after children in a variety of work and leisure environments, teachers, nursery and childcare staff.

Venue - Essex Outdoors Mersea, Rewsalls Lane, East Mersea, Colchester, Essex, CO5 8SX

Content of the course will include - but is not limited to - unconsciousness, choking, head injuries, burns and more.

On completion of the course, delegates are expected to have gained the knowledge and skills required to deal with a range of medical and emergency situations involving infants and children.

Course detail

This course is OFQUAL regulated, nationally recognised and Ofsted approved. The course takes a theoretical and practical approach to learning first aid in a variety of scenarios.

The course is made up of five practical assessments and two multiple choice written papers that will be carried out informally over the two days. A course book and handouts are supplied to each candidate.

Course content will include

  • The role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Incident and casualty assessment
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for infants and children
  • Care of the unconscious casualty (including fitting)
  • Choking, shock, anaphylaxis
  • External bleeding including types and treatment
  • Fracture recognition and treatment
  • Sprains and strains
  • Dislocations, head injuries and spinal injuries
  • Eyes, ears and nose injuries
  • Extreme heat and cold injuries
  • Chronic or acute medical conditions and illnesses
  • Burns and scalds, electric shock, poisons, animal bites and stings
  • Minor injuries, completing records relating to illnesses, emergencies and injuries

On completion of the course, candidates will receive the Qualsafe accredited Paediatric First Aid certificate.
